Elevating Our Windows (Literally!): How We Styled Our Space with Curtains

Let’s talk about windows! When we moved in, privacy was a top priority. With all the open space downstairs, we needed some good curtain rods, and no boring ones would do. After a little digging, we found the perfect iron curtain rods on Amazon. They came in a matte black finish, had tons of length options, and were light and easy to install. Bonus: they added the sleek, modern touch we were going for.

We paired these with some gorgeous white curtains from West Elm, opting for the 108” height to add a bit of drama. A common mistake people make? Installing curtains just above the window casing. Not us! We went higher, hanging them closer to the ceiling to create the illusion of taller ceilings (a neat trick when you’re working with standard 8-foot ceilings like ours). It instantly made the family room feel more spacious and airy.

Pro tip: Let your curtains gently touch the floor. It gives a polished, elegant look. And when you’re installing, don’t guess the height—put one curtain on the rod and hold it up to see how it hangs before drilling. Trust me, it’ll save you some headaches later! We also bought extra curtains so they’d bunch up nicely when open, but still cover the windows fully when closed.

The transformation? Instant! What was once a bare, open space now has height, texture, and a soft, welcoming vibe. Sometimes, it’s the little things—like curtains—that make the biggest difference in a room!
